Jim Poage is a Senior Financial Analyst at MACCO, based out of the Denver, CO office. He has over 35 years of experience in corporate accounting and finance, internal audit, tax compliance, investment banking, risk management and business acquisitions. He has a strong background in SEC reporting, tax planning and business valuations, including restructuring for complex acquisition transactions.

Jim’s financial reporting and accounting expertise is derived from working with corporations from inception through maturity in various industries most notably, agriculture, entertainment, real estate, oil & gas, and mining, where he has served in financial leadership roles.

His in-depth understanding of operational accounting, cash flow, budgeting and forecasting allows him to rapidly make astute assessments to practically advise clients regarding financial and operational issues. Jim has advised multiple public and private companies, represented buyers and sellers in due diligence reviews and in the assessment of financial operations where he identified opportunities to increase profitability and enterprise values.

Prior to MACCO, Jim independently served as CFO and Acquisition Project Manager with several publicly traded oil & gas companies. His career began at a “Big Four” accounting firm. He holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting from the University of Colorado.

Notable Assignments

  • Served as Project Manager for a private real estate company to develop an oil and gas accounting department following a Section 1031 acquisition of approximately 5,000 wells.
  • Led the initial structuring of the accounting team and mentored the CFO through a public audit for Bank of Oklahoma.
  • Developed financial projection models to optimize revenues and assess asset valuation.
  • Managed the acquisition of approximately 8,000 Appalachian gas wells for a public company, including structuring the accounting team.
  • Oversaw the implementation of a gas measurement and revenue accounting system to manage and account for acquired well assets.
  • Acted as Senior Accountant for a subsidiary of a major public entertainment company, managing monthly accounting, valuation, and SEC reporting for domestic programming assets.
  • Served as CFO for a public oil and gas company, implementing accounting systems, internal controls, and managing SEC audit reporting and compliance.
